THE GREAT MOGUL
Located in Xiameilin, Futian District, Shenzhen, THE GREAT MOGUL is a project co-developedby two giants of China’s real estate industry-Wongtee and Shimao, who aim to create a new landmark in Shenzhen.
However, the existing effect of the project is not proper enough to match with the current positioning and target of development. In addition, the rigid zoning and disorderly streamlines are obvious weakness of the existing planning. Therefore, both the partners agree to “try something new”.
The existing planning focuses only on renovation of the entrance and atrium. For arenovation project, that’s nothing more than changing a coat. The site should be pumped into vigor of rebirth.

Xiameilin was once an old town filled with dilapidated buildings and commercial facilities in chaos. The designers shake off the limitation of the site and seek for new vitality based on the city interface and with consideration of the surroundings.

The constructionshed at the original entrance is the first interface between the project andthe city. Currently, it has fallen into ruin with crude hoardings. Therefore,the first stop of the treasure hunting journey is to renovate the constructionshed at the entrance.

Drawing on the experience of the pure façade used in the flagship stores of luxury brands, the designers make the entrance stand out of the surrounding chaos and create a time channel which helps to change the guests’ state of mind as they going forward.
The Time Channel becomes the new front façade of the vehicle entrance on one hand, and makes thechrono-cross treasure hunting journey more fantasy on the other.
When you drive into the entrance, the ever-changing light and façade create a treasure hunting experience of “a small hole seemingly glittering in front of the mountain” and then “find the view instantly clearing up after going tens of feet more”.
The site area of THE GREAT MOGUL totals only 10,000 m², while the two high-risings occupy near 5,000 m². Therefore the landscape space is comparatively limited, and only 1,600 m² is left for landscape of internal showarea.

Limited by the site conditions, the major entrance and the drop-off area of the original solution curl up at the corners, lacking necessary sense of domain and sufficient show area for marketing. The internal show space is small and enclosed. The streamline runs at one side, while the central area is empty, the recreation area seems stiff. In a word, it is not competent to the center piece of a show area.

Some cosmetic efforts were made previously for the space and the existing space was found going against the unfolding of the streamline and changing of mind. After several discussions between the owner and the designer, both parties decided to carryout a fundamental solution instead of some superficial improvements.

Two adjustments have been made for the major entrance area: first, the entrance of underground parking, the pedestrian entrance and the fire access are integrated into auniformed ritualistic porch, and the entrances parallel to the roads instead ofthe buildings.
Secondly, the streamline no long parallels to the outside roads, but is introduced vertically towards the entrance of coremarketing area.
A splendid avenuegoes through the entire garden, the galaxy waterfalls on both sides make visitors feel like being in the brilliant Milky Way.
When night falls,the starry sky lights up and is reflected in the water, the sparkling dropping water echoes with the sky. When visitors step on the dreamy land of Star Avenue,it seems like they are walking through the splended galaxy.
On-site pool concreting on 5F roof, the pergola structure and wall grid construction, followed by the curtain wall façade structure construction, were completed previously. While the overall effect featured disorderly and rigid. The target of the regeneration is to upgrade the functions and quality based on the original structures.
